The John Pizzarelli Quartet played on The Late Show last week. This is their performance of “Johnny One Note” from their latest album With a Song in My Heart. I love it when they play their small group stuff with John singing. You don’t get to hear music like this anymore. John is just about the last of his kind out there, and he is a vigorous ambassador of this kind of traditional jazz. The whole band is just spectacular here. Enjoy.

I last saw the band at Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood. I met Larry Fuller there. He’s an amazing piano player, probably one of the best jazz pianists in the world right now as far as I’m concerned. We (my friends and I) were pretty much the only ones there, and we were right in front and enjoying the show a lot. Larry kept looking at us all funny, and I think he thought we were mocking them because we were so into the music and we’re kind of young relative to the audience that normally listens to this music. I bet he thought we were being a bunch of wise-asses. In case he reads this: Larry, I assure you, we loved it too much to even describe.
